3D-press force analysis for Nonwovens

Perfect process parameters

Optima Group Nonwovens not only sees itself as a leading machine manufacturer with regard to performance and flexibility. The service portfolio related to all packaging tasks offers numerous additional benefits. One of the latest innovations is an evaluation method that allows ongoing analysis of the production process: the 3D press force analysis. It allows, inter alia, recognition and prevention of excessive product strain.

3D-press force analysis

This 3D-analysis allows precise determination of the press load distribution used for compressing nonwovens products. The measurements are compiled by use of a high number of sensors that accurately measure the locally applied force of pressure. Results have shown that the distribution of these forces can vary considerably. Excessive strain on the product - on baby diapers at the creases or on zones with material accumulation, for example - may have detrimental consequences, as it may lead to functional impairment of the product’s absorption capacity. Therefore, Optima Group Nonwovens offers regular analysis of the applied forces and their graphical depiction in a 3D-diagram. Sensors, 256 in total, evenly distributed across the product surface, make these forces and their distribution over the surface visible in a resolution of <10 mm. If desired, resolution can be doubled by using two sensor arrays. The method guarantees optimized process parameters to the manufacturer – for any compressible product, if needed.

Quality assurance and cost efficient production control

The results of the measurements give manufacturers of paper hygiene products efficient control over their production. Excessive material inside the product leads to unnecessary costs. Uneven distribution of material inside the product may cause quality problems. The 3D press force analysis can be the key to an efficient production process and high product quality. Optima Group Nonwovens offers the 3D-press force analysis within the frame of project development as a service offer. Once the optimum press force has been verified by multi-sensor measurement, integral distribution of pressure in practice, in daily production, is determined. This allows production monitoring even with small data quantities, thus excluding potential performance impairments. Reference series with regard to baby diaper packages show typical deviations of several grams that can be identified by press force analysis. The discrepancies are clearly manifested in the time and the geometric analyses of the press process, and they are made visible in the different measuring curves in the diagram below. The 3D-press force measurement is one of the many services offered by Optima Group Nonwovens to support product-specific process development. The systematic approach allows determination of nearly all process parameters and their variability in the laboratory as well as under routine conditions. The services further include evaluations with regard to process compatibility of the individual parameters, trend analyses, statistics, standard deviations as well as consumer and producer risk analyses.
