In the business year 2012, the packaging machine manufacturer Optima (Schwäbisch Hall, Germany) has once again shown positive growth. The consolidated turnover of the group rose from 220 to 240 million euro, an increase of around nine percent. At the end of the year the company had 1,700 employees (previous year 1,500).

A narrative chronicle on the occasion of the company’s 90th anniversary

Be it pharmaceuticals, medical or paper hygiene products, coffee, tea, food products or cosmetics – wherever the filling and packaging products of daily need require the highest standards of hygiene, the name "Optima" is heard. On November 21, 2012, Optima celebrated its 90th anniversary. This occasioned the publication of a lavishly illustrated anniversary book. On 150 pages, it chronicles the journey of this Schwäbisch Hall-based company from its humble beginnings to the top of the global market in packaging machine construction.

In December, Martin Sauter was appointed business manager of OPTIMA consumer GmbH. Together with Hans Bühler and Rainer Feuchter, the managing directors of the Schwaebisch Hall-based enterprise, he will be heading the company branch in Geschwister-Scholl-Straße at the Solpark, one of Schwäbisch Hall’s industrial zones, where a new office complex is presently nearing completion.

In 2012 Optima do Brasil celebrates fifteen years providing packaging solutions to Brazilian and Latin American markets and every year we deliver new projects with national fabrication. This means that the company offers solutions in equipment to cosmetic, food, pharmaceutical, chemicals and hygienic industries, with the German’s technology “know how”, besides the advantages of an equipment made in Brazil. Some of these machines were presented in our last Open House, held on October 22th to 26th.


Em 2012 a Optima do Brasil completou 15 anos no mercado brasileiro e a cada ano entregamos novos projetos com fabricação nacional. Isto significa que a empresa oferece soluções em equipamentos para as indústrias Cosmética, Alimentícia, Química, Farmacêutica e Higiênicos, com o know how da tecnologia alemã e as vantagens de um equipamento fabricado no Brasil. Alguns destes equipamentos foram apresentados em seu último Open House, realizado nos dias 22 a 26 de Outubro.

Grand Opening Ceremony Shanghai

The official Grand Opening Ceremony of OPTIMA Packaging Machines (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. was held on August 08, 2012. More than 130 persons, which were guests, officials of the local government, affiliated partners and associations, members of the board and the local staff, celebrated in the company’s new facility in Jiading.

Optima Consumer, with its' broadly expanded product range offers concentrated know-how for liquid and dry products. Turnkey equipment for natural liquid additives used in the beverage industry will be at the show. A second exhibit at the Optima booth is a CMF cartoner. The modular construction offers optimal flexibility.

Achema: The chemistry is right!

The greatest visitor magnet at Optima was the processing line for blood plasma products. This line comprises all process steps from washing through to the final seal. A turnkey project that for the first time contains the new catalytic aeration system with which the isolator cycle times can be drastically reduced. Great interest was also evoked by the new robot control developed by Optima Pharma with “anti-swash effect”. This ensures that fluids in the containers, gripped by handling robots and moved quickly, always remain at a constant fill level.

Consolidation, expansion and a new name

With the introduction of a new worldwide corporate logo at the beginning of the year, the new brand strategy of the Optima Group moves to the forefront. Name changes effective July 1st underscore the continued integration of the subsidiaries to depict a clear structure. Business units will not only thus bear the same logo worldwide, but also the same name with additions to show their target markets. Kugler GmbH, S.F. Vision GmbH, Stern GmbH and a division of the OPTIMA filling and packaging machines will combine to form OPTIMA consumer GmbH. Further business units at Optima will also be renamed.

Steady upward trend in the past and positive future outlook for Optima
Growing with technical advancements

The filling and packaging equipment built by Optima has continued its growth trend. The year 2011 topped all others with a consolidated turnover, reaching EUR 220 million. (EUR 210 million in 2010). On December 31, 2011, 1500 people worldwide were employed by Optima; approximately 200 more than in the previous year.

Nonwoven products are lightweight, compressible and – consequently – sensitive. In addition, their dimensions vary within certain tolerances. The unfavorable results of traditional palletizing methods are unstable stacks. In sum, we already have four good reasons to switch to a palletizer specifically designed for nonwovens.
