Line competence for Unilever

Depalletizing, destacking, sleeving, filling and 100% weight control
The greater the complexity of a packaging project, the more users can benefit from a one-stop manufacturer which is able to supply and integrate all modules from in-house production. The great challenge of this project was the accurate dosage of powdery sauce and soup products.

An intriguing ‘TWIST’ for beverages

After the lasting success of single-serve systems in the coffee segment, the next triumph is already under way in the beverage market: Water no longer is ‘simply’ water – water is in motion. Today, water fountains serve many niche markets, promising additional value, a special flavor experience or both. Functional closures – a growing market between trend and health awareness.

Progress and change in machine concepts 1995 – 2010

Looking fifteen years back, those were the characteristics of a typical packaging machine: The favored drive solution was a three-phase current drive, preferrably with frequency converter for speed adjustment. Drives were few, servo drives even fewer. The control usually came as PLC sequence control, and movements were carried out via cam discs, pneumatic actors, or one main shaft. The machines had keys and buttons for a very limited number of functions. If displays were incorporated at all, they could only indicate one line of plain text.

Better, cheaper or just bridging peak times?

In some industries, outsourcing has the slightly dubious image of a cost killer. But although outsourcing once was considered a magic formula, many companies are now reversing the trend. All too often, quality problems ruined all cost benefits. Thus it is remarkable, that the trends in the pharmaceutical industry – where safety is of the essence - point in this very direction: Outsourcing is on the rise.

The discussion rages on around swine flu, Bird flu, SARS and other potential pandemics, which has moved the vaccine market into the focus of not only public interest but has also re-invigorated the pharmaceutical companies to develop new vaccine products.

Changes of the past, changes to come…

Biotechnology trends. In specific cases, the filling and packaging processes for these highly active, sometimes very expensive biopharmaceuticals require modified technologies.
